Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition 2015

ANNUAL SUMMER EXHIBITION PREVIEW PARTY

The Royal Academy opened its 2015 Annual Summer Exhibition this year with a  Preview party on  Wednesday 3rd June.  It was amazing that this wonderful exhibition has been held since 1769 without a break, and just one year after George III founded the Royal Academy!  With 1,100 entries, it is the world’s largest open submission of contemporary art.  The famous artist and Royal Academician, Grayson Perry,  Chaired the  Show for the first time this year, and set the mood with his dress code of “Impact over comfort”!
Guests were greeted in the main Anneberg courtyard outside by an amazing steel “cloud” sculpture by Conrad Shawcross, before they arrived at the door, of the main staircase - emblazoned with colourful vinyl tape stripes, designed by Jim Lambie.  Creating further impact were newly painted walls of  teal, magenta and sky blue, in the main Rooms, on which the works by other emerging artist were hung.
It was, as usual, a glamorous and glittering evening with many celebrities attending both from the worlds of art, music and theatre, and mingling with Academicians and guests.  There was plenty of champagne and many different canapés together with varied seafood stands, and food stations – adopting a South American influence.  Guests enjoyed live musical performances throughout the different galleries.
The tickets this year ranged from £255 upwards to a package of six tickets for 3,200and as in previous years the sponsor was Insight Investments
The show is now open to the public and runs until August 16th
