Royal Ascot 2026 Ladies Day at Ascot Racecourse Windsor.

by Hannibal Reitano

Royal Ascot, known as the jewel in the crown of the horse racing calendar, started in 1711, famous for its fashion as it is for its races, the full spectrum of style was on show at Ascot's most glamorous day, the term Ladies Day was first used in 1823 when an anonymous poet described the Thursday of the annual meeting as 'Ladies’ Day … when the women, like angels, look sweetly divine.'

H.M. King Charles III and H.M. Queen Camilla lead the traditional carriage procession, which is celebrating its 201st anniversary. The tradition, which marks the official start of the day, began during the reign of George IV in 1825 when the monarch was accompanied by the Duke of Wellington. The Gold Cup winner was Scandinavia, Aiden O'Brien's 100th Win at Royal Ascot, the trophy was presented by Their Majesties, The King and Queen.
